FULLERTON, Calif. – Hope International pitcher Taylor Asio (JR/Lahaina, HI) has been nominated by the Golden State Athletic Conference for the A.O. Duer Scholarship Award.

The A.O. Duer Scholarship is named in honor of the NAIA's former executive secretary for his 26 years of service to the Association. The award has been presented since 1967 to one male and one female junior student-athlete in any sport who have excelled in scholarship, character, and citizenship. 

Taylor enters her senior year academically with a 4.0 overall GPA while handling a rigorous schedule majoring in Business Management. 

Asio stepped up this short season as a key player for the Royal's softball team. On the mound, Asio had a record of 3-1 with seven appearances and led the Royals pitching staff with the lowest batting average against (.247). 

Away from the field, she has volunteered her service within the Fullerton community. Asio has volunteered at the Society of Biblical Literature Pacific Regional Meeting which was affiliated with HIU. Additionally, she has helped "The Cause Church" to clean up their facilitates. Lastly, Asio has mentored young student-athletes as she was the assistant coach for the travel softball team, USA Athletics.

As the GSAC winner of this prestigious award, Taylor will now move forward for national consideration by the NAIA.
