ROCKLIN, Calif.- The Royals ran at the Warrior Invitational hosted by William Jessup on Saturday, for their last race before the GSAC Championships. The women raced a 5k against four of their conference foes, followed by the men who raced an 8k on William Jessup's newly refurbished course located on their campus.

The women hit the ground running at 8:45 am Saturday morning and tallied 111 points and a 4:39.2 team spread. The women's race went off quick and the Lady Royals took a more conservative approach with the new challenging course.  The women moved up throughout the race gaining on runners that went out too hard.

Three-time All-GSAC Selection Daphne Salomon (SR/Chino, CA) raced for the first time this season, coming off an ankle injury, and led the way for the Royals finishing 16th overall with a time of 20.33.9. Aurora Couto (FR/Winchester, CA) continued to show her strength as a freshman as she was right behind Saloman and finished 17th overall with a time of 20:37.8.

Sofia Gutierrez finished with a time of 22:59.3 (32nd overall), followed by Tabitha Abbey (SR/Fullerton, CA) 23:42.6 (36th overall), Jasmine Valdez (SO/Fullerton) 25:13.1 (40th overall), and Sophia Ruesga (JR/Fullerton, CA) 27.18.0 (41st overall).

"This was a dress rehearsal for the Conference Championships which will be held in two weeks on the same course.  Daphne and Jasmine ran their first race of 2020 and really looked great knocking off the rust.  The women finished 5th out of the 5 teams are hungry to beat some teams in two weeks." Head Coach Dan Whittington

On the men's side, The men's race went off quick and the Royals followed suit by going out with the field. The Royals had one top ten finish and three top 25 finishes. Andrew Valle (SR/Whittier, CA) led the way for the Royals finishing 7th overall with a time of 26:57.1. Valle was followed by Anthony Ramos (SR/Rialto, CA) with a time of 27:48.4 (14th overall), Joseph Clemons (SO/Val Verde, CA) 28:26.9 (20thoverall), and Ethan Escamilla (FR) 29:37.6 (31st overall). The Royals had no team score due to only having four runners.

"Andrew and Anthony shot into the Top 10 right away.  The men did a great job hanging on.  Unfortunately, the men only had 4 runners and were unable to score as a team today.  In two weeks, the men should have a complete team and look to surprise some teams. " Head Coach Dan Whittington

The Royals will return to William Jessup's course on November 7th for the GSAC Championship.
