The Hope International Men's Golf team won their first spring tournament in program history at the William Jessup Invitational played this past Monday and Tuesday. The Royals last tournament win came during the fall season in 2019 at Los Serranos Golf Club in a tri-match against Vanguard and Providence Christian College.

The men entered Tuesday with a nine-stroke lead over William Jessup University and Ben Bernard (JR/Cypress, CA) was the individual leader with a score of 77 in round one, while Connor Pierson (JR/Murrieta, CA) was tied second overall individually with a score of 78.

The Royals remained in the lead after round two as they stayed eight strokes ahead of William Jessup who finished second overall.

"Cameron played as our #1 this week even though he was coming back from a back injury. He just played his game and was staying patience the entire tournament. He was a few strokes off the lead after the first round, but he stuck to his game plan and executed under pressure," Head Coach Brittney Sok.

Cameron Salkeld (SR/North Tustin, CA) shot an 83 in round one but turned a corner in the second and third round as he shot a 78 and 36 to finish as the individual champion with a score of 197 (+20), two strokes ahead of Oliver Csanyi from William Jessup.

Connor Pierson ended third overall with a total score of 200, after shooting 80 in round two and a 42 in round three. "Connor has been a top player the last few events and is so close to scoring some really low numbers," Brittney Sok.

Ben Bernard finished sixth overall at 77-87-40—204, while Gabriel Sosa finished eighth overall at 81-88-38—207.

"The men's and women's teams have not even come close to what they are capable of. I believe this will give them the confidence and motivation for the remaining spring semester. I am very proud of how hard they have been working and excited for what's to come," Sok.

HIU's next scheduled tournament is March15-16th hosted by San Diego Christian College at Singing Hills.
